Student Opportunities

Ready for primetime

In their junior year, students in communication are considered for department scholarships in public relations, journalism, and visual communication. We also regularly distribute calls for outside scholarship opportunities through our department Google Group.

In their junior year, communication students are considered for scholarships in public relations, journalism, and visual communication.

Honors Programs

Junior students who meet specific requirements are invited to participate in a year-long honors thesis project in communication.

Research

Communication students are amazing scholars, and many have received research fellowships to work with department faculty on original research projects...

Service-Learning

Communication students find numerous internship and summer job opportunities locally, nationally, and internationally.

Spaces and Facilities

The Department of Communication has state-of-the-art HD television and radio stations, as well as Dell and Apple computer labs. 

Student Awards and Recognition

As a result of their classes and internships, communication students have published work in local, regional and national media.

Lectures and Events

The Department of Communication hosts several events, seminars, and lecture series throughout the year.


When You Graduate

Take a starring role

Graduates enter a rapidly-changing media landscape armed with both technical talents and problem-solving abilities stemming from the liberal arts. In addition to the graduates who work for media companies or in communication departments of non-profit, corporate, and government organizations, many pursue graduate and law degrees, join the Peace Corps and Teach for America, or teach abroad.

 

Careers 

Tigers are valued as smart, articulate problem solvers across a wide array of career paths. Communication majors have become journalists, public relations professionals, advertising creatives, filmmakers, designers, corporate communicators, and small business owners (just to name a few).
