Candidates for a baccalaureate degree must fulfill the requirements for a major as listed in the courses of study bulletin. The courses of study bulletin is the official source of information regarding degree requirements, academic policies, and academic majors and minors at Trinity University.

Pathways Curriculum
-
Students must complete the Pathways Curriculum in order to receive a baccalaureate degree. The Pathways Curriculum has six curricular requirements, and three optional elements that provide the foundation in the liberal arts and sciences for all the bachelor's degrees awarded by Trinity University. Through these requirements, students acquire the necessary skills and disciplinary perspectives to navigate complex questions at Trinity and in their post-graduate lives.
Fiction Writing and Poetry Writing
Study of the theory, techniques, and practice of poetry writing and fiction writing with an emphasis on short stories.
Creative Nonfiction
Extensive writing in forms and techniques of creative nonfiction, including memoir, travel writing, nature writing, and technical writing.
Playwriting and Screenwriting
Through formal literary techniques and approaches, students create their own plays and screenplays.
Gender and Poetics
Understand the role gender plays in writing, reading, and the functions of text in society.
Novel Writing
Learn forms of realistic fiction and how to adapt them to a novel, including dramatic scene, character sketches, and dialogue.
Experiential Learning in Editing and Publishing
Work with a faculty member on the production of a monograph, collection, or journal while considering issues in literary and scholarly publishing.

Student Opportunities
Ready for primetime
In their junior year, students in communication are considered for department scholarships in public relations, journalism, and visual communication. We also regularly distribute calls for outside scholarship opportunities through our department Google Group.

The Department of Communication has state-of-the-art HD television and radio stations, as well as Dell and Apple computer labs.
As a result of their classes and internships, communication students have published work in local, regional and national media.

Take a starring role
Graduates enter a rapidly-changing media landscape armed with both technical talents and problem-solving abilities stemming from the liberal arts. In addition to the graduates who work for media companies or in communication departments of non-profit, corporate, and government organizations, many pursue graduate and law degrees, join the Peace Corps and Teach for America, or teach abroad.
